Get more guitar students [just change THREE things]

What if I told you that you could get more guitar students than you can poke a stick at by changing three simple things that you're already doing?

Granted, you're doing them WRONG if you're not getting enough students - but you're definitely doing them in one way or another.

But let me start with a much more important question;

WHY do you want to get more guitar students?

It's not a trick question - why are you looking for more students?

I'm going to bet your real question has more to do with a financial objective that you're not currently reaching with your current business model, and the easiest way for you to earn more money is to work with more students, right?

Two very different questions.

I posit that if find better quality students, make a better offer to them, and guarantee the results they're hoping for - you'll actually reach your financial objective working with LESS students than you're working with right now.

I would know.

In 2020, my music coaching business almost tanked.

It took about three weeks to go from totally booked out to less than three or four students booked in the following week, then NONE the week after.

Terrifying stuff.

I too thought that I needed to get MORE students.

But the truth is stranger than fiction here because I work with about 5-10 students a week at most, and my music coaching business brings in at least $1000 a day at this point.

It's taken me about four years since making these changes to scale it in this way, but honestly - I hit six figures in the first 12 months after changing the type of student my content was speaking to, the type of offer I was making them, and the type of guarantee I was making.

Instead of offering an hour lesson for $70, instead - the key here is to to the root of their real goals.

When you get a student asking if you can help them to play better guitar leads, you simply need to ask them WHY they want to play better guitar leads.

The answer is likely going to shock you.

"Oh, I'm going out on tour in three months" or "I'm finishing an album" or "I've got an audition for an established band" or "our record label is sending us out on tour in July"

This now seems like a totally different student to some random dude that wants to learn Stairway to heaven, right?

If you can get a timeframe and deadline on those goals and a clear arc for how you can GUARANTEE these results to them, you can make a much better offer than an hour of coaching.

I'm not going to ask you whether you earned $1000 today, $1000 yesterday or if you're likely to make $1000 tomorrow.

I'm just as uncomfortable talking about money as you are.

So, let me rephrase the question for you.

Did you make a $1000 offer today?

When a student came to you asking for guitar lessons, did you give them the easy answer of "sure, it's $50 an hour"

Or, did you quantify their real goals, get a timeframe on the results they're looking for and then make an offer based on those RESULTS, not your time?

Did you make a $1000 offer yesterday, and are you going to make one tomorrow?

People can absolutely say no, and they do from time to time - and that's totally okay.

But if you didn't make the offer because you were scared to hear them say no, then I can comfortably assume you're not doing $1000 a day as a guitar teacher.

Now, this all starts by finding the RIGHT student.

Asking a campfire guitarist to pay you $1000 or $2000 to help them learn a couple of chords for a camping trip just doesn't track.

So, you need to work out exactly who you're most equipped and qualified to help in the most effective and dynamite way.

The rock guitarist with the tour coming up?

A flamenco guitarist fresh out of the conservatorium looking to perform live?

An aging professional guitarist that has lost some dexterity?

The more specific and 'niche' your audience, the more valuable your offer is going to be for them.

And did I mention guarantee?

If you can't double down on your offer by gauranteeing their rusults with a totally psychotic offer like "money back + $1000 of my own money" or "money back and I'll come out on tour with you and tune your guitar every day" - then, you likely have no business trying to coach this guitarist. Let's call a spade a spade here.

You have to be such a spectacular fit for your prospective students that when you make them an offer, it really would be STUPID of them to say no - especially when you double down with a crazy guarantee (let's face it - you're awesome, and you KNOW you're going to get them those results, right?)
