Making 10k a month [as a music teacher]
Making 10k a month as a music teacher is easy when you understand your audience, speak to the right prospective students and finally make the right OFFER to these students.
Before I was making 10k a month as a music teacher (I run a voice coaching studio), I was working some 50, even 60 hours some weeks - Sunday mornings, night time, basically taking on any and every student that I could work with to fruitlessly try to reach my goals with my coaching business.
Let's do the math on that.
Let's say that you want to earn $250k a year - and you give guitar lessons for $50 an hour.
$250,000/12 (month of the year) = 20,833
$20,833/4 (weeks in a month approx) = 5,208
$5208/$50 (weekly income divided by your hourly rate) = 104
The amount of hours you have to be coaching each week to reach this goal = 104
One hundred and four fucking hours of guitar coaching EVERY week!
If you doubled your rate, the amount of coaching you would have to do each week really doesn't look that much better, something like 52 coaching hours every week.
You could double your rate from there too - but you're going to have a HELL of a time booking around 30 students each week at $200 an hour, week-in-week-out through the year without a break.
It's just not possible, right?
Let's say we back up on that goal a little bit and we're talking about making 10k a month as a music teacher.
If you're charging $50 a hour, that's STILL 50 hours of coaching each week.
You can of course double that like in our example above, but it's going to get harder and harder to keep your studio booked at this level every week - and your students are just going to get more and more demanding and frustrated through this process. They're basically paying double for a service without receiving any more value.
Basically, you're going to lost most of your current students, and have to do a massive hard sell to anyone new coming your way to try and keep 25/30 students a week locked in at $100, $200 an hour for your coaching services.
Music coaching is a dire prospect as a business at this point, right?
Let's address the Elephant in the room though - hourly lessons simply SUCK as a true method for learning any instrument.
I took 'em.
You took 'em.
Your students are taking 'em.
One hour a week, or one hour a fortnight really isn't going to help your students reach their goals - but, they obviously aren't going to spend all day every day with you walking the walk and talking the talk as a musician trying to learn the skills you're sharing, right?
So - let's put money aside for a moment, and start talking about a more efficient way to teach your students.
Imagine the VALUE your students would receive if they had access to your brain, your method, your approach 24/7 at their fingertips.
A community of other musicians that have been through your tutelage and are actually out there gigging professionally, making records etc under your direction.
Imagine a set of assignments, goals and 'checkpoints' if you will along the way as they're reaching each new level with your approach.
Imagine a special tool that shows them the exact same skill, tool, reasoning skills, practicality that they get from asking you a question like "but what scale can I use to solo in this key?" or "what vowel should I sing?" or "which fundamental am I using for this drum fill?".
Imagine having their teacher on speed dial for a quick question and response...
Imagine a group call each month with you and all your current students all working through the same goals as you...
The ability to send you an audio clip for appraisal and advice...
Have you noticed that I haven't said "hourly rate" or even "hour class" yet?
What do you think all the above is worth to your students over a 12 week period as they work towards a specific goal with you.
$1000?
$2000?
$3000?
Then we add specified reasons and time to meet - an 45 minute appraisal session, a live appraisal of their playing, a 'fly on the wall' session while they're rehearsing for a half hour.
The absolute VALUE of this program over 12 weeks as they're working towards their goal is literally infinite in value.
You're making a bigger IMPACT with your student, they're achieving PSYCHOTIC results from your program and you're ultimately charging for RESULTS, not an hour of your time.
I personally run a voice coaching studio - and my main coaching program is a 12 week intensive training course that has all the above and more value, and it runs at $3200us.
Lets track back to our goal here of making 10k a month as a music teacher.
10k/3200 = 3 to four sales per month.
I can literally make ONE sale per week, say NO to working with 30 other students that simply aren't a good fit for my program, and still blast past $10,000 a month.
We've hit $250k every year in online course sales alone since applying this simple change to my offer as a teacher - and that's separate to any regular coaching or memberships that I offer, it's this intensive program alone.
Making 10k a month is easy once you understand who you're really speaking to, and WHY, and finally - what to offer your students.
Imagine making 3 or 4 sales each month and blasting past your goal of making 10k a month as a music teacher - AND your students are achieving bigger, better and more amazing results than you or they ever thought possible.
It really IS possible.
Now, it's not actually all about the money.
It's about your students benefiting from your true expertise.
My expertise as a coach is practical experience in the recording studio, singing out on tour and in a live setting and also being a rock guy who sings in a more-intense-than-normal way.
Teaching a total beginner who has never sung a note in their life really isn't utilizing these true, unique expertise at all - and is something that someone can probably learn for free on YouTube, or at local vocal lessons for $30
They would be overpaying for what they get out of my program, and it would ultimately be a waste of time for the both of us.
But if someone comes to me with a record deal, an impending tour and a recording session - and they're shitting themselves about it because they're just not ready and experienced for what is about to happen - now THIS is a goal and project that I can really sink my teeth into and flex my expertise in a powerful way.
You can bet this second student is going to go out there and knock their recording session out of the park, nail the tour without a hitch - all while impressing their new record label and management with their professionalism and expertise as a singer and asset to their businesses.
This is absolutely worth the price of entry to my program.
It's really all about who you can serve the most effectively, and make the most IMPACT on with your coaching.
But that all starts with finding, identifying and speaking to your ideal students on a primal level in your content so they KNOW that you're absolutely their guy as a teacher before they ever even set foot in your coaching studio.
And that starts with your content.
You just let out an audible sigh, right?
Making content sucks - and it's DIFFICULT to make regular, high quality, entertaining and educating content, right?
Sure, you've got an idea for a video today, but what about tomorrow, and the day after that, and next week?
Your lack of quality, engaging, regular content is the first chink in your armor.
So how exactly do you create regular, ENGAGING and educational content?
The Family Tree Content System shows you exactly how to do this.
I used to call this system the 1x10 content system, but honestly - the sheer AMOUNT of content ideas and headlines it was creating for me was just getting out of hand, hence the new name!
Imagine a content system where you create one piece of content, and then this content tells you exactly what to do for your next 10, 20, even 50 pieces of content?
Once you automate each one of these branches of content out from your original content, you'll seriously have TOO MUCH content to release.
Hit the link below and I'll show you exactly how the Family Tree Content System works;
The SLOW BURN content system
