How to make 1000 a day as an online guitar teacher
Did you make $1000 dollars today? Did you make $1000 yesterday? Are you going to make $1000 tomorrow?
Talking about money sure is UNCOMFORTABLE, right?
If your coaching studio is struggling financially, it's obviously stressful and embarrasing to talk about.
But on the flipside, if you're succeeding financially to a certain level... it's JUST as uncomfortable to talk about!
My music coaching studio brings in $1000 a day.
There, I said it.
Some days a little more, some days a little less - but it balances out to $350-$400k a year ($1k a day, rain hail or shine)
Now, this definitely didn't happen overnight, and it DEFINITELY wasn't a fluke.
I actually launched my first coaching studio in 2001 - so, in a way it's taken me TWENTY FIVE years to get to this point.
But really, it took me less than 12 months to scale a failing coaching studio to six figures, then a few more years to shift that up a few gears to finally learning how to make 1000 a day online as a music teacher.
2020 was a shitshow, for most people, but especially for music teachers.
Everyone pulled back on anything as frivolous as rock guitar lessons or rock vocal lessons - and coaching studios that were full to the brim just weeks before were stripped back to crumbs.
I went from full weeks to less than 5 students booked in ongoing - and even then, most took some convincing to stay on me through all the uncertainty that was the world in 2020.
But let's not talk about that, let me show you exactly HOW I make $1000 a day as an online music teacher so that YOU can learn how to make 1000 a day as an online guitar teacher.
Now, we're both uncomfortable talking about money, so let me ask you a much less confronting version of the question I asked a little earlier in our conversation;
Did you make a $1000 offer today?
Did you make a $1000 offer yesterday?
And are you going to make a $1000 offer tomorrow?
Sure, people can say no - it definitely happens from time to time.
But, if you didn't make this kind of offer because you were SCARED of hearing no, I can guarantee you're definitely not making $1k a day.
When a prospective student most recently came to you for help with their guitar playing - did you;
a) take the easy way out by saying "sure, I charge $60 an hour" (insert your hourly rate)
or
b) did you ask WHY they wanted to improve their guitar playing and when they needed to improve it by?
I'm going to guess it was option a).
Now, if you're looking to make 200, 300 even $500 or $1000 a day like I'm doing - you need to quantify your prospective students' goals before making them any sort of coaching offer.
"I need to nail these guitar leads because I've got a world tour coming up supporting Pearl Jam in August"
Is a VERY different answer than "Can you help me play fast guitar solos?"
Let's say this is a real scenario where the guitarist has a high profile tour coming up, and this is why they've come to you for help with their guitar coaching.
If you never asked the question WHY they needed to play fast guitar leads, you would have treated them like any other Tom, Dick and Harry that came through your coaching studio - you would have charged the same, and they likely would have got generic results just like everyone else with generic goals.
But, if you quantified the REAL goal here - to nail the tour supporting Pearl Jam in a few months;
THIS is something you can make a much more valuable coaching for.
"Sure, I can guarantee you're going to nail every show on that tour - we're going to use XYZ tools, XYZ online course modules, support from my online community, my special fretmap tool and select one on one coaching with me. Basically, we're going to throw everything we have at your guitar playing to GUARANTEE that the tour is going to go off without a hitch. Is that what you're looking for?"
"awesome - oh yeah, how much is it?"
"I guarantee the results with a full money back guarantee and I'll personally pay you $1000 for every show you mess up on the tour"
"oh wow, how much again?"
"So with all the tools, the training with me and that crazy guarantee - the whole guitar program to prepare you for the tour will run over the next 12 weeks - and is $2700 in total (we can split that down into three payments for you)"
"Done - can't wait"
Now, you might wonder why this guitar student would agree to a $2.7k program when they can probably take a few lessons from the guy down the street that only charges $30 an hour.
Here's the thing, this is a SERIOUS goal with SERIOUS ramifications if shit hits the fan and the tour doesn't go well.
Money will be lost, and lives and dreams might even be ruined.
The $30 can NEVER provide the kind of value and guarantee that you can - plus your content up to this point has already been invaluable to this guitarist.
And with that crazy guarantee - they'd be stupid to say no and stupid to go and work with the $30 hack down the street.
You've positioned yourself as the real deal and expert for preparing guitarists for high profile tours in your online content up to this point after all.
It goes a little like this;
- Identify who your ideal student really is
- Make them an offer they simple can't refuse
- Double down with a psychotic guarantee
Rinse, repeat.
My coaching program runs from $2k-$3.5 depending on the student, the goal and my personal involvement through the process.
I can count the "no's" that I've had in the last 12 months on one hand alone, and that's because I highly qualify my prospective students before making any sort of offer.
And when it comes to the guarantee - if you can't double down and offer this sort of crazy guarantee, you likely have no business teaching a student of this calibre in the first place.
Speak to the right people, make the right offer, make a crazy guarantee.
