Earn 10k a month [as a music teacher]
If you want to earn 10k a month as a music teacher - you first need to understand exactly WHO your audience and students really are, and secondly you need to offer them a specific solution to their unique problems.
I've written these out for you below, but you can scroll down further and I've broken it down into actionable steps under the screenshot below;
Think about it - there's a guitar teacher waving a big sign on the street screaming that he offers guitar lessons for $100
Most people are going to cross to the other side, and maybe even call the police on the crazy person screaming and waving a sign without even considering taking a lesson with him.
Now, imagine this guy is walking down the street and compliments a guy on his Iron Maiden shirt, they strike up a conversation, the guy is in a band doing Iron Maiden covers and is having trouble playing some of the guitar solos live - and it turns out this very teacher specializes in 80's rock and metal lead guitar.
A business card is exchanged, and this student books in for a series of lessons to reach the goal of playing 5 Iron Maiden solos before their big debut gig in August.
No-one called the cops, noone left a bad comment or bad review, and prices weren't even mentioned until a goal had been agreed upon, and a solution had been guaranteed.
This is an example of a niche, and how you speak to your niche.
Online is really no different.
Instead of putting up videos on YouTube saying "anyone can play guitar", you instead need to say "this video is for fans of Iron Maiden" or "this video is for classical pianists" or "this is for fingerstyle bass players that want to play stoner rock".
Yes, this alienates all the randoes that would never book a lesson with you anyway - but, it basically reaches through the screen and grabs your ideal student by the collar and shakes them.
You're now speaking to your ideal client.
Now, the offer you're going to make them is a different story.
let's face it, hour lessons suck as a method for helping your students reach their goals.
I bet your students sometimes get frustrated, and I bet you get frustrated too right?
That's because it's an antiquated model.
Your students really do most of their growth and improvement OUTSIDE of the time they spend with you - taking away your advice, plans and structure for them, sitting in their room and chipping away at the goals you've set for them, right?
Basically, they're making massive improvements and growth when they're on their own - and you're not even getting credit for it, and you bet, not even getting paid for it.
Now, instead of offering a lame 1 hour lessons for $50 - basically, there's no guarantee of a result, they MIGHT get better, or they might not; they're paying for your time anyway.
Instead, what if you created a special tool that showed them which key to solo in? Which vowel to sing and when? What chord inversions they can use? Which modes they can use?
... And they can access it 24/7 and basically get your feedback and response instantly through this tool?
This is called value.
And what do you think this 24/7 access to your brain is really worth to your students?
Create a number of special tools that support your method and support your students, create a community of fellow students that have been through your tutelage and are out there kicking ass playing gigs and making records, create a set of online modules that are paired with a training routine.
Have you noticed I haven't mentioned hourly lessons or hourly rate yet?
You can sweeten this program with quantified time with you - a 45 minute appraisal, perhaps a live audition, maybe even audio files of their rehearsal for advice and appraisal.
What do you think a program like this is really worth?
I offer a vocal training intensive that runs over 12 weeks and runs at $3200us.
Three sales a month and I nail our goal to earn 10k a month as a music teacher.
My students see CRAZY results because they get supported like never before, both by my tools and program, but also my existing and previous students - and finally, if needed working with me directly in a quantified, qualified way.
The key to earn 10k a month as a music teacher is to first speak to your ideal students with the right message, and finally to make the right offer that really guarantees results.
Time and money together are always scrutinized - but RESULTS are ultimately priceless.
The key here is really leveraging your expertise rather than your time.
If a professional flamenco guitar teacher is working with a guitarist that wants to learn campfire songs - the student will ultimately be overpaying for the experience, and the teacher will be unfulfilled and will really be failing in their role of supporting the student through their goals.
Now, if that same teacher worked with a young flamenco hopeful who mastered guitar at the conservatorium, has scored a record deal and is making an album in 8 weeks and heading out on a three month tour afterwards to support the record - THIS is a goal and student that the flamenco teacher can really get behind with their experience making flamenco records, with their touring experience and their expertise specifically in preparing flamenco guitarists for these exact projects and experiences - and the student will be paying accordingly for the results only this teacher can provide.
