6 steps to a better music coaching business

If you're a music teacher that wants to build a better music coaching business so that you can make a bigger IMPACT with your students while achieving financial and time freedom, here's 6 steps to a better music coaching business that I've learned from being a music teacher for over 15+ years while running a 6 figure coaching studio.

1. Be your true authentic self

Strive for authenticity above all else with all of your online content and interactions. The more authentic you are, the greater the trust in your relationship with your students. They should know "you" as much as they know your coaching - take the guru out of the equation and be real, human and authentic.

2. Tell a story

Don't just spout facts and information at your audience and students, instead, tell a story - your story! You might not realise it, but you have a story that makes you relatable to your students. Instead of sharing absolute perfection every moment, share your struggles, what has worked and what HASN'T worked - what you're still working on or any obstacles you still face. Humanity is becoming more and more of a unique commodity as the online world shifts towards AI and online content becomes more like Netflix than real human interactions, education and experiences.

3. Set a great example

More than perfect technique and perfect chops as a musician and teacher - you have to set a great example for your students. After all, you're the stone from which your students behaviour is being carved. Practice routine. Care for your instrument. Drive and motivation. Attitude. These come from examples set, not lessons written on a blackboard.

4. Speak to your ideal student with a singular message

I sometimes look back on my own content and wonder "who the hell was THAT for?" - your content needs to speak to your ideal client, the student that you wish would walk through your studio doors burning to work with you. There's no such thing as bad leads, only a reflection to your content/how you put your content and yourself out there. The content you release will create a direct reflection in the students that want to work with you - want a good fit? Speak to 'em.

5. Make an offer they can't refuse

Hourly lessons suck as a business model, and they suck as a teaching model. Craft an unbeatable offer with VALUE VALUE VALUE and let program speak for itself. If your content has done it's job correctly, there will be no hesitation - even urgency to accept your offer and get started with the results that they know only YOU can provide. 

6. Let your program over deliver FOR you

Over-delivering on your promises doesn't mean making yourself available 24/7 for menial tasks - your program should handle all the basics and heavy lifting for you. If you're getting questions within your program - systemize that shit or create an online module so it's handled by your program in the future. A highly valuable program isn't just valuable to your students, it's valuable to YOU because a great program will create time freedom for you, and a bad program will suck all your time like a vacuum as you're plugging holes in your promises.
